Frederik Fritzsch, born 1980 in Wilhelmshaven, Germany, studied Biochemical Engineering (BIW) from 2002 to 2008 in the Department of Biochemical and Chemical Engineering at the Technische Universität of Dortmund, Germany and in the Departement of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Hong Kong.
During his studies he did an internship at the Max Planck Institute of Molecular Physiology in Dortmund, Germany in the field of structural enzymology, contributed to a group project concerned with projecting a new chemical plant for the Bayer MaterialSience AG, Leverkusen, Germany and successfully took part in the transition of a continuous biodiesel plant from lab to pilot scale in an internship at the Bayer Technology Services GmbH, Leverkusen, Germany. He completed his studies with his experimental diploma thesis with recombinant E. coli as whole cell biocatalysts in two liquid phase fedbatch and continuous fermentations in the Applied Biocatalysis Group of Dr. Bruno Bühler at the Laboratory of Chemical Biotechnology of Prof. Andreas Schmid at the Technische Universität Dortmund, Germany.

Frederik Fritzsch is currently a PhD stipendiary of the International Leibniz Graduate School Systems Biology Lab-on-a-Chip in the Research Department for Bioanalytics in the Single Cell Laboratory, which is a joint laboratory of the Leibniz-Institut für Analytische Wissenschaften - ISAS - e.V., Dortmund, Germany and the Laboratory of Chemical Biotechnology of Prof. Andreas Schmid. At the Laboratory of Chemical Biotechnology he is a member of the Systems Biotechnology group of PD. Dr. Lars M. Blank.

Research Area

In his interdisciplinary thesis he develops novel lab-on-a-chip technologies for contactless cultivation of a single bacterial cell and microfluidic sample preparation methods for perturbation analysis.
