Resume

Hendrik Kortmann, born in 1978 in Unna, Germany, studied Molecular Biotechnology from 1999 to 2005 in the Faculty of Technology at the Bielefeld University, Germany. During his master thesis he worked on affinity based plasmid purification using tailored proteins in the Fermentation Technology research group of Prof. E. Flaschel, under supervision of Dr. C. Voß. Hendrik Kortmann started his PhD at the end of 2005 with Prof. A. Schmid at the Laboratory of Chemical Biotechnology, TU Dortmund, and at the Leibniz Institut für Analytische Wissenschaften - ISAS - e.V., Dortmund, Germany. He was a member of the Systems Biotechnology group of PD Dr. L. M. Blank.

Single Cell Analysis was the subject of his Ph.D. thesis. The aim was to construct and use a bioreactor for spatiotemporal single cell analysis. The developed microbioreactor allows constant environment conditions, in which the cell is isolated, trapped, and analysed. In 2007 he participated in and was funded for the FEBS course "Yeast Systems Biology" at the Gothenburg University and Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg, Sweden. In the same year he was a stipendiary of the DFG when presenting at the µTAS 2007 conference in Paris, France. In 2008 he won the first price of the ideas competition G-Dur together with Andreas Schmid and Lars Blank entitled ”Variable und reversible Aufnahme für planare Mikrofluidikchips zur fluidischen und elektrischen Kontaktierung”. During his PhD, Hendrik Kortmann authored 4 publications, 3 oral and 7 poster presentations and co-authored 2 publications and several conference contributions.
