Dr. Linde Debor
Linde Debor was born in Tongeren, Belgium in 1982. She studied Bioscience Engineering at the K.U.Leuven, with a major in Environmental Technology and a minor in Cell and Gene Technology. For her Master thesis under supervision of Prof. Jos Vanderleyden and Dr. Miguel Gueimonde, she developed a species-specific real-time PCR method for quantification of intestinal Bifidobacterium spp., during an internship at the Probiotics laboratory of the Functional Foods Forum in Turku, Finland in 2004.
In 2005, she applied for a PhD position at the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences of the K.U.Leuven, under supervision of Prof. Dirk Springael, Prof. Jan Van Impe and Dr. Leen Bastiaens. The project was funded by a research grant from the research institute VITO in Mol, Belgium, where most of the practical work was carried out. In the course of her PhD project, she developed a lab-scale inoculated bioreactor for bioremediation of MTBE-contaminated groundwater, characterized an environmental bacterial consortium for MTBE/TBA-degradation using molecular methods and derived and modeled kinetic parameters (growth rate, yield, degradation rate) of MTBE degradation by the mixed bacterial culture.
Linde Debor works as a postdoctoral researcher at the Laboratory of Chemical Biotechnology.
